Jean_Dubost_Histoire_1949

In the aftermath of the 2nd world war, during 1945–46, the company went through a critical period: cutlery alone was no longer enough to sustain the family.

Jean even considered taking over a petrol station in a neighbouring region.
But the two brothers, Jean and Noël, refused to give up and criss-crossed Paris and the whole of France in search of clients.

Their efforts paid off: by 1949, our knives and cutlery found their way onto the shelves of BHV, Printemps, and Galeries Lafayette in Paris — partners we are still proud to count among our clients today.

Pictured opposite, the order books of the era bear witness to an already remarkable variety: scout knives, one-piece table knives with handles in precious woods (bubinga, rosewood), and the very first bakelite handles — that modern material which was also used at the time to manufacture the iconic black rotary-dial telephones.

The Jean Dubost story continues!

Our Jean Dubost Laguiole® Millésime sommelier corkscrew is now available in three new marbled ABS finishes: marble, marbled grey, and flamed horn effect.

Entirely conceived and designed by Thierry, our Production Manager, this sommelier is crafted in our workshops with over a century of expertise, in Viscomtat near Thiers. It combines a foil cutter blade, a 5-spiral worm, and a guilloché-patterned spine.

An exceptional tool — both authentic and refined.

To make it easier for customers to identify cutlery products on the shelf, Jean Dubost is introducing new informative and educational pictograms to its in-store displays.

Designed to accompany each product, they allow shoppers to quickly identify uses and functions, while also highlighting French manufacturing. The result is a clear, simple, and intuitive in-store experience.

Optimising the customer experience is at the heart of everything Jean Dubost does.
